Our Museum Expert Says:

The Atlanta Cyclorama & Civil War Museum, located in Grant Park, Atlanta, Georgia, takes visitors into the real drama of the Civil War Battle of Atlanta. The museum houses the Atlanta Cyclorama, the largest oil painting in the world. Visitors view the cylindrical painting from the inside, entering through an entrance in the floor. After being seated, the central cylinder rotates slowly affording a view of the entire painting, which takes viewers back to that day on July 22, 1864 to experience what it meant to be a heroic soldier bravely defending Atlanta. This, together with foreground figures, music, and narratives, allows viewers to feel as if they were bystanders actually watching the historical event unfold before their eyes!

Besides the Cyclorama, the museum is home to the historic Civil War locomotive, "Texas" (hero of the "Great Train Race"). There are also two floors of Civil War artifacts including weapons, uniforms, photos, and videos. There is a tough screen computer system which details each event of the Civil War day by day, a treat for serious war enthusiasts.

You're more than exciting Civil War adventure can be easily reached from Five Points MARTA station and then take the #97 bus to Grant Park. If you're driving in, take I-20 to exit 59a (Boulevard) and follow the signs. You'll find the Cyclorama next to the Zoo Atlanta in Grant Park.
