Visit one of the largest historic districts in the United States at the Savannah Historic District which contains various important sites from Savannah's long and illustrious history. Located in Savannah, Georgia, the Savannah Historic District's 1,800 buildings offer visitors a fun and exciting experience.

Built in 1733, Savannah was the first colonial and state capital of Georgia. Savannah came under British control during the American Revolution, though it was eventually recaptured. In 1864, Savannah was captured at the climax of General William Tecumseh Sherman's March to the Sea and was offered to President Abraham Lincoln as a Christmas gift. Since then, the character of Savannah has changed from a cotton-producing powerhouse to a major paper producer.

The Savannah Historic District contains buildings from throughout Savannah's fascinating history and features Colonial Park Cemetery, from the city's time as a colonial capital; the Laurel Grove Cemetery, the final resting place of Confederate soldiers; and the Bonaventure Cemetery, a former plantation that houses the remains of some illustrious Savannahians. The Savannah Historic District also hosts a wide variety of historical houses of worship, including the Trinity United Methodist Church, founded in 1848, and the Temple Mickve Israel, the third-oldest synagogue in the United States. A variety of tours of the Savannah Historic District are offered, focusing on the architecture, greenery of the area, or its history relating to pirates, ghosts, or the Civil War. After their venture through the Savannah Historic District, visitors can find a stunning variety of restaurants within easy walking distance from any point in the area.

To get to the Trinity United Methodist Church at the heart of the Savannah Historic District, take I-95 South, get on US-17 South, then get onto Oglethorpe Avenue toward Savannah. Then turn left on Montgomery Street, right on West York Street, left on Barnard Street, and right on West President Street.
