Our History Buff Says:

The beautiful surroundings of the home of an historic patriot are available to explore at the Charles Pinckney National Historic Site in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The site preserves the farm of Charles Pinckney, a hero of the American Revolution and an accomplished politician, and offers visitors the opportunity to learn about Pinckney's life and work.

Charles Pinckney, a young lawyer, enlisted in the Continental Army in 1779. He had already been a member of the Continental Congress. Later, at the Constitutional Convention, Pinckney allegedly contributed a draft that became the basis of the final American Constitution. From 1789 until his death in 1824, Pinckney served as the governor of South Carolina, a representative and a senator. In 1828, the main house of the farm was constructed at Charles Pinckney National Historic Site, which was designated as a national park in 1988.

A half-mile walking trail through the Charles Pinckney National Historic Site contains wayside exhibits describing the history and surroundings of the site. The visitor center at the site, housed in the Lowcountry farmhouse built in 1828, has a self-guided museum and a 20-minute orientation film about the site.
