South Carolina's Myrtle Beach is the central area of a 25-mile strip of coastline referred to as the "Grand Strand" that stretches from Pawleys Island in the South to North Myrtle Beach. Commercialization over the years has taken precedence over nature, so expect to see a lot more families, college students and seniors flocking here than swans and seagulls.
Myrtle Beach is a sort of coastal Southern version of Las Vegas with lots of malls, golf courses (there are over 100 in the area!), water parks, and themed restaurants like Medieval Times and the NASCAR Cafe. The sandy white beaches attract over 14 million visitors a year making Myrtle Beach by far one of the most popular of all tourist destinations on the Eastern Seaboard.
