Things to do / Travel Guide
Ted Turner's contributions to the sporting scene in the Georgia and South Carolina Coast region should not be underestimated. He used his TBS television station to broadcast Atlanta Braves baseball games nationwide, and their home field now bears his name. Turner Stadium was originally dubbed the Centennial Olympic Stadium and was the main outdoor site of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. Turner purchased both the Braves and the NBA's Atlanta Hawks in 1976. Atlanta is also home to the NFL's Falcons and the NHL's Thrashers.
The Georgia Dome in home to not only the Falcons but also the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, one of the premier, post-season college football bowl games. This region is the heart of the South, and the South loves NASCAR, which is why the Atlanta Motor Speedway is host to five different NASCAR events throughout the auto racing season.
