Our Nature Nut Says:

The Petrified Forest National Park is all about showing off its mind-boggling collection of vivid, beautiful petrified wood. In addition to boasting the world's largest collection of the unique wood, the massive expanse contains several American Indian petroglyph sites in the southern area. There are a literal treasure trove of fossils dating back hundred of millions of years, some of which are the earliest in North America.
It takes about 45 minutes to drive through the entire park although many choose to stay overnight at the park's campgrounds. The best way to enjoy the park is definitely on foot. This is not a park for major hiking though as the longest trail is only 2 miles. If you have time, stop by the Agate House, an important park structure built entirely of petrified wood.

From Petrified Forest National Park - Arizona:

Petrified Forest National Park is a surprising land of scenic wonders and fascinating science. The park features one of the world's largest and most colorful concentrations of petrified wood, the multi-hued badlands of the Chinle Formation known as the Painted Desert, historic structures, archeological sites, and displays of 225-million-year-old fossils.
