Our Nature Nut Says:

Goosenecks State Park is an example of one of the finest entrenched river meanders in the world, and is a truly spectacular site to behold. The deep canyon, formed by the San Juan River, is filled with stepped cliffs and terraces, with the river flowing 1,000 feet below ground level. Besides photographing and taking in the incredible views here, visitors are welcome to go boating in the lake and camp out in the great facilities available at the Park. If you do decide to camp, be sure to bring plenty of food, water and necessary gear. Any way you slice it, Goosenecks State Park is home to natural beauty you'll not soon forget!

From Goosenecks State Park - Utah:

Four miles off Utah State Road 261 near Mexican Hat, you can look into a 1,000-foot-deep chasm carved through the Pennsylvanian Hermosa Formation by the silt-laden San Juan River. The river meanders back and forth, flowing for more than five miles while progressing only one linear mile toward the Colorado River and Lake Powell. The access road is paved. Facilities include primitive camping and vault rest rooms.
