Popular among New Yorkers who can't find the time to get out on the Colorado River or the Rouge River or just like the idea of some tame rapids a couple of hours drive from the city, whitewater rafting on the Delaware River make for a great day trip and a taste of wilderness, close to home. So, we recommend a trip down the whitewater of the Upper Delaware River. Experience part or all of the 72 miles of Class I - II rapids, the longest free-flowing river in the Northeast. Expect easy river with a few exciting parts and views of some scenic forests and farmland. Great for short family runs, which makes the river crowded on weekends.

This section is located in northeast Pennsylvania, along the border with New York State, south of Route 17 (from exit 87). The Upper Delaware River whitewater sections pretty much ends at the point where New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania intersect. From that point on the river plots a flat course forming the border between PA and NJ, through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and eventually passing Philadelphia and making its exit into the Delaware Bay.

Practical Info: Rafting season is open approximately from mid-April to October, with whitewater rafting trips ranging in length from half day to 2 days. The river is suitable for paddle rafts, kayaks, and canoes.
