If you're visiting, or living in, Philly and looking for a convenient place to ski, then you have found the right place. Spring Mountain is a lovely and petite mountain which provides fantastic, cost-effective, service to local and visiting families alike. It's proximity to Philadelphia makes it popular with Philly natives who don't want to make the drive over to the Poconos.
The 9 trails and 6 lifts along with the small vertical drop of 420 feet, serve as a beginners' and family friendly paradise. The trails are organized in order of difficulty, with the easier trails over on the left side of the hill and becoming increasingly difficult as you move rightwards. Spring Mountain has a beginners learning area, Mole Hill, for beginning skiers and boarders which is separate from the busier main slope. The Mole Hill has its own Magic Carpet, thereby removing any need to climb up the mountain between runs.
The season tends to start as early as November and runs on until mid-March. This long season is thanks to the fact that the 100% snowmaking there allows for more mountain days all year round. Spring Mountain is open weekdays from 9:00am to 9:00pm and remains open until 10:00pm on weekends, with evening rates beginning at 4:00pm. The mountain offers a variety of themed discounts on its tickets. These include Student Night (12-18 year old students), College Night, Family Night, Women's Day, Men's Day, and the Business Bach.
Spring Mountain is also a great place to learn how to board. Snowboarders are free to roam all over the mountain but also have a terrain park of their own with various rails and a mail box, as well as a half pipe to make sure they catch some air. Spring Mountain's instructors implement "The Burton Learn to Ride Program for Adults and Kids" to provide a great experience for beginners and ensure their continued return to the mountain.
If the kids need some time off, or you're interested in an new and exciting birthday party idea, tubing is available weekday evenings and on weekends. There are 8 trails and 2 tubing runs serviced by 4 chairlifts and 1 tubing lift. Tired of the tubing and are looking for something exciting and new? Give the newly available winter canopy tours a try. The canopy tours are a series of zip lines and rope bridges which run under the tree canopy. Just a short hike from the top of the mountain, and you'll be zipping down the mountain over your skiing and snowboarding friends.
Spring Mountain offers two dining areas: Spring Mountain Café and the Alpine Restaurant. However, the proximity to Philadelphia and its wide variety of food and culture makes the short drive very appealing. Only 28 miles away, Philly offers a wide array of national historical sites, museums, and performing arts. Philly is also well known for its dining and vibrant nightlife. Whether for fast food or fine dining all tastes are satisfied in the city. Look for a place to eat on The Avenue of the Arts in the center city. For a happy hour or a night cap try areas such as South Street and Old City.
Other than a local campsite, there is no lodging in the ski area. Despite this, there are a variety of motels, inns, and bed & breakfast close by. The best idea is to spend the night in nearby Philadelphia.
From Spring Mountain Ski Resort - Salford, Pennsylvania:
Spring Mountain is a wonderful family resort close to home. We're small enough to not be intimidating and large enough to challenge even the more advanced skier or rider.
