Situated on the beautiful Benjamin Franklin Parkway, step into the world renowned collection of Auguste Rodin's sculpted art at the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia. Rodin's affects on the history of art and sculpture haven't seen a comparable artist since Michelangelo. Ushering in a whole new era of artistic expression, Rodin struggled to be as absolutely faithful to nature as possible. His ability to show movement and the inner feelings of the men or women he sculpted, and his extraordinary use of similar figures in different mediums, have been impressing viewers of his works for over 100 years.
At the Rodin Museum visitors have a chance to see his bronze castings, plaster studies, drawings, prints, letters and books he has authored. Gaze upon the controversial "The Gates of Hell" and learn about the scandal around the "Age of Bronze" or the "Monument to Honore de Balzac", where Rodin produces a figure of great genius at a moment of inspiration, wrapped in a cloak.
The Rodin Museum houses a beautiful garden, a calm respite from the noise of the city. Designed by Jacques Greber, the Rodin gardens offer visitors a breath of fresh air. Whether it's the reflecting pool in the garden mcourtyard or the flowers and shrubbery, a sense of calmness will echo the cool beauty you will experience inside the museum itself.
Free guided tours of the Rodin Museum are given to the public at 1:00 p.m. every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, and on the first and third Saturdays of every month.
To get to the Rodin Museum from I-76: Head east on the Vine St. Expressway. Exit north onto the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and you'll see the museum two blocks down.
Just before you enter the Rodin Museum, prepare to witness what has literally changed the face of sculpture.
