The Philadelphia Museum of Art, known locally as "The Art Museum," was established in 1876 in conjunction with the Centennial Exposition of the same year and is now among the largest and most important art museums in the United States. Daily one hour tours are available of the Museum's more than 225,000 objects, spanning the creative achievements of the Western world since the first century A.D. and those of Asia since the third millennium B.C. The Art Museum is one of the world's best for modern art, featuring concentrations of work by Picasso, Duchamp, and Brancusi, as well as by American modernists. Your kids will love the exhibits of African American Artists, Winter Wonderland, and Arms and Armor and the museum audio guides available especially for children, will increase their enjoyment. Young visitors to the museum can frequently be seen mimicking the famous run of Rocky Balboa up the front steps, now known locally as the Rocky Steps.
