Our Museum Expert Says:

Visit the museum created by Milton Hershey, the chocolate man! Learn about Native American history, the expansion of the town of Hershey and the story behind the chocolate, all in one museum!

Located in Hershey, Pennsylvania, the Hershey Museum is much more than chocolate. The Museum celebrates the life of Milton Hershey, from his daring move in locating his new chocolate factory on the farmland near his place of birth, to his establishment of a town in 1903 to accommodate his workers, to the creation of a school for disadvantaged children. The museum also covers topics such as Native American history, exploring Indian life from the Eastern Woodlands, Great Plains, the Southwest, North Pacific Coast and Alaska through displays of clothing, tools, pottery, baskets, and ceremonial objects.

Visitors will also see an outstanding collection of Pennsylvania German furniture, along with ceramics, textiles, and folk art that illustrates the settlement and growth of South Central Pennsylvania and Hershey's heritage. Some of the highlights include a hands-on look at a decommissioned Comet rollercoaster train, John Fiester's handcrafted Apostolic Clock, and the children's Discovery Room.

Older kids will love the old candy-making machines, once used by The Hershey Company as well as the Conestoga wagon, and even younger tots will enjoy the firefighting equipment from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. School groups (all grades), should not miss the hands-on guided tours on Native American Cultures where children can try their hands at pumping and bowing drills, pounding corn and softening deer skin. Children can actually set up a tipi, and taste Southwestern Indian food. Tours last about 1¼ hours. The Hershey Museum is located at 170 W Hershey Park Drive.
