Our Botanical Gardens Expert Says:
The oldest botanical garden in the United States, this 18th-century country garden is surrounded by urban Philadelphia. In the gardens you can see a wildflower meadow, majestic trees, river trail, wetland, the original stone residence (Bartram's House, built in the mid-1700's), cider press and farm buildings overlooking the Schuylkill River. Within the gardens is an interesting exhibit of indigenous American plants based on the Bartrams 1783 catalogue.
