Things to do / Travel Guide
Eastern Pennsylvania's northern mountain area has no shortage of wonderful scenic overlooks, and they're pretty easy to get to. The Pocono Mountains offer lookout points along all the major highways.
The summit of Camelback Mountain, located in Big Pocono State Park in northeastern Pennsylvania, offers a magnificent view of this heavily-forested region, as well as of parts of New Jersey and New York. The ascent is steeply graded, so a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle is recommended. Entrance to the park is from State Road 715 and Exit 299 of I-80 at Tannersville.
Kittatinny Ridge - Where the 40-mile-long Delaware Water Gap Scenic Drive, winding through the 70,000-acre Delaware Water Gap, reaches a stretch where it cuts through the 1,400-foot Kittatinny Ridge, be prepared for an amazing panorama overlooking forests, deep ravines, and waterfalls.
