Things to do / Travel Guide
The eastern Pennsylvania region offers many entertaining events associated with festivals and holidays, so it's worthwhile to plan your visit to coincide with a holiday, especially an historic one. Many theme parks and factory tours, such as Hershey's Chocolate World, in Hershey, and the Crayola Factory in Easton, also offer entertainment for the whole family year round.
Philadelphia
Philadelphia's Old City is the area to check out for nightlife. The bars and clubs cater to young crowds, with informal entertainment and unpretentious food at moderate prices. You can even club hop by river taxi to more than a dozen nightspots near the Ben Franklin Bridge on the Delaware River waterfront.
Jazzmatazz in Philly - Musicians and music lovers alike agree that jazz is alive and well in Philadelphia. At Chris' Jazz Café (1421 Sansom Street) top jazz musicians are featured regularly. Another hotspot is Ortlieb's Jazzhaus (corner of Third Street and Poplar Street), where live, world-class jazz is featured every night except Sunday. Reservations are required.
Musical Concerts
The Mann Music Center and the Wachovia Center bring world-famous artists like Yo Yo Ma or Madonna to Philadelphia. Citizen's Bank Park and Penn's Landing are two other venues where you can catch anything from a Bon Jovi concert to a Reggae Festival.
The world-famous Philadelphia Orchestra is the resident orchestra at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. The Kimmel Center houses the 2,500-seat Verizon Hall, designed and built especially for the orchestra, as well as the 650-seat Perelman Theater for chamber music concerts.
