Relax, forget all your worries and come to Edenton Bay in North Carolina, known as "The South's Prettiest Small Town". History buffs will love Edenton Bay for its Colonial History. Adventurous types will love fishing and boating in this bayside town. Architecture buffs will love downtown Edenton, rife with Victorian architecture.

Edenton Bay is the Colonial capital of North Carolina. Visit Edenton's Colonial past with tours through a beautiful historic district, where over 25 homes and public buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries are restored originals. Take a guided walking tour of the area or walk around on your own after picking up a guide from the Historic Edenton Visitor's Center. Some of the buildings you will see are The Cupola house, built in 1758, turned into a museum of the pre-Revolutionary period. Built in 1767, the Chowan County Courthouse has been called "The finest example of Georgian architecture in the South". Make sure to go past the Edenton Bell Battery Civil War: ''St. Paul,'' one of four cannons cast from bells donated by Edenton churches. The Edenton Bell Battery served throughout the war. The gun with a sign explaining its history is located in front of the Barker House at the foot of Broad Street.

If you can't walk around too long or just want to relax you can tour the historic district on a 45-minute trolley tour where a guide will tell you about the people and events that shaped the town during important periods in Edenton's history. Edenton's main road, Broad Street, is a photographer's dream, with its Victorian facades, old-fashioned drugstores selling home-mixed sodas, and 50s chrome signs. You can shop in the local boutiques for homemade baskets, weavings, and pottery.

Head over to the waterfront where you can relax at the great parks look out at the vistas across Edenton Bay and the Albemarle Sound, or enjoy fishing and boating. Edenton's residents are known to be very friendly and gracious and it's not uncommon for them to invite visitors to come in for tea.
