The Cape Lookout National Seashore is almost completely undeveloped, allowing visitors to experience the natural splendor of the islands. Spring and fall at Cape Lookout offer what many consider to be some of the best fishing on the East Coast. Bird and horse watching are two other popular activities on the beach. Keep a look out for several native bird species, including heron, terns, and songbirds, as well as wild horses roaming the islands in harems, or bands. Windsurfers and boaters flock to the shores of Cape Lookout as do families hunting for seashells, exploring the Cape Lookout lighthouse, or just looking for an ideal picnic setting.

The seashore is a 56 mile long stretch along the Outer Banks of North Carolina running from Ocracoke Inlet in the northeast to Beaufort Inlet in the southeast.
