Our Museum Expert Says:

You won't believe your eyes as you explore all the realms of science at the Science Museum of Virginia. Exhibits on computers, electricity, light, matter, motion, space and more will delight and intrigue any taste. Not only that, the Science Museum of Virginia also houses an awesome IMAX Dome and planetarium with special shows.

A five-story DNA strand awaits you in the Bioscape exhibit, and leads you into the Very Small Gallery, a world of DNA and the Genome project. Jump into the Electriworks exhibit and make electricity arc through the air or use your voice to make a laser beam dance and generate electricity. At the Newton in Space exhibit, explore the world's first aluminum submarine, float on air or sit on the astronaut's gyro chair.

The IMAX Dome Theater shows movies with such titles as Sea Monsters, Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs and Human Body. The planetarium explores the astronomical beliefs of the ancient Egyptians. Check out the latest images from the Hubble Space telescope or just sit up, stair at the sky, and ask an expert what you see.

The museum's cafe Portico is a great place to enjoy delicious sandwiches, salads, desserts and coffee beverages. At the Science store you'll get the best selection of science toys, books, games and experiment kits. You'll also find beautiful jewelry and unique decorative gifts, including mineral samples for your little geologist at home.
