Address:Fenwick Island State Park, Delaware
Enjoy 344 acres of sand, surf and relaxation away from the beach crowds! Situated between Bethany Beach to the north, and Fenwick Island and Ocean City to the south, the peaceful ocean shores at Fenwick Island State Park Beach make for great swimming and sunbathing, while the medium-grain sand, which slowly slopes into the Atlantic, offers visitors the perfect place for a cooling swim when you need a break from the summer sun. Older kids on boogie boards will get along here just fine, but note that younger kids may have a harder time with the rough waves that break right on the shore, so plan accordingly.
The more adventurous types should rent a board and surf the big waves here at Fenwick Island Beach; one of the few beaches in Delaware with a designated surfing area. Fenwick is also a favorite spot for surf fishing, and there are 3 dune crossings that provide fishing access for vehicles, which can drive right onto the beach if equipped with the proper permits. Lifeguards patrol the beach here daily from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, 9am to 5pm, and the park offers rental boats, chairs, umbrellas, and rafts for your convenience. There's also a new modern bathhouse which offers showers, changing rooms, a gift shop, and snack concessions.
Remember to bring enough in cash for the parking lot, and try to park as close as you can to the showers for a shorter walk back to the car later. If at day's end, you're ready for a meal, you can head south to Ocean City where there are whole blocks of fast food franchises and restaurants from which to choose.
