Our Zoo and Aquarium Expert Says:
Stroll through the Garden and walk amongst the gods! This Colorado garden is filled with unique natural beauty, and ample opportunity for recreation, that the whole family can enjoy together. Perhaps the most unusual feature at Garden of the Gods is the sandstone hogback formations, so named because they resemble the backs and spines of a pig. Each hogback formation can range up to several hundred feet long, and the tallest is 320 feet tall! There is plenty to do here, including hiking, walking, mountain biking, horseback riding and, of course, rock climbing. The park offers free 20-minute nature presentations daily at the Visitor & Nature Center on a wide variety of topics, including geology, ecology, and wildlife. Kids will love the Mineral Display, which features extraordinary mineral samples from mines in Colorado, including the state mineral, rhodochrosite. There are also 3 Talking Rocks with interactive displays and sounds on 144 topics, and life-sized replicas of two buffalo and a Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep. There are also 7 great Hands-On Displays for the whole family to enjoy. These include the Red Rock People, Daybreak Detective, Rocks of the Garden Geology, and Clues to the Past. Should you get hungry for a snack and a rest while here, there are two uncovered picnic areas in Garden of the Gods Park for visitors to enjoy! Garden of the Gods is located at 1805 North 30th Street in Colorado Springs, CO.
