Our Theme Park Expert Says:

Come face to face with zombies and demons or hop on a snowboarding thrill ride! Elitch Gardens Theme Park is an eclectic blend of the theme park classics and fresh ideas, a combo that's sure to please the pickiest of theme park lovers. The history of Elitch Gardens dates back to 1890, when John and Mary Elitch built picnic areas and ball fields on a small apple orchard. Today, this park features 45-plus rides, including Twister II, a 10-story roller coaster with a 90-foot drop and dark tunnel, the Flying Coaster, a one-of-a-kind "hang gliding" experience in which passengers lie facedown, and the Halfpipe, a snowboarding-themed thrill ride for 16 passengers on a 39-foot board. There's a beautiful and fully restored 1925 carousel with 67 hand-carved horses and chariots that is popular with the little ones, as are the pint-sized rides in the Looney Tunes MovieTown. Of course, classic rides like Big Wheel, a giant Ferris wheel over 100 feet tall, and the Tea Cups, a mild spinning ride, offer great fun for everyone. If you're looking to really be twisted and spun, check out Troika, which spins and twists riders every which way; or why not try Disaster Canyon and experience the thrill and adventure of white water rafting as you whirl through churning, surging rapids. The adjacent Island Kingdom Water Park also boasts more than 11 rides and attractions, including Cannonball Falls, Castaway Creek, Commotion Ocean and Hooks Lagoon, and is free with admission to the theme park. And those who live for haunted houses will love Brutal Planet - an industrial realm overrun with zombies and demons, and Screams - a traditional haunted house filled the Halloween favorites, great for all ages. The park also hosts musical revues and stunt shows, and offers great games, arcades, food, shopping and beautiful flower gardens, so clear the day and come on down to Elitch Gardens.
