Our Nature Nut Says:

The 500 million-year-old red rocks or sandstone formations at Roxborough State Park emit an age old serenity that can be felt instantly upon your arrival. The park is a natural national landmark and lies between plains grassland and Front Range Forest communities at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. In addition to the spectacular red rocks, some areas of the park have exposed a low ridge of fine-grained limestone that contains the bones and tracks of dinosaurs and, in other areas, fossils of marine invertebrates. Perhaps the most awe inspiring features at Roxborough are the hogbacks, spires, and monoliths that date back to between Precambrian and late Mesozoic times. With all of this and the incredible mountain wildlife here, its no wonder Roxborough State Park has been recognized as a national landmark.
