Behold, a treasure trove of Native American art! If you add the only Asian art collection in the Rockies region and throw in extensive collections of Western, European, African and Spanish Colonial Art among others, you can understand why the collections at the Denver Art Museum will be a highlight of your visit to the area.
From Pueblo pottery and Navajo weaving to plains Indian beadwork, the Denver Art Museum was the first art museum in the U.S. to collect American Indian arts. Today the museum boasts more than 55,000 works from across the world, and over 16,000 works representing over 100 different North American tribes. The collection of Asian art includes sand mandalas of Tibet, a Korean Comb chest and much more, with themes such as of religious traditional arts and folk crafts. The Western collection is considered one of the most impressive in the nation. Many visitors pop in just to visit "Linda," a life-size realistic sculpture of a sleeping woman. The incredible collections here are complemented by the building's design, which resembles Rocky Mountain peaks. Kid will enjoy the Adventures in Art Center's hands-on art classes, along with the Just for Fun Family Center. While here, be sure rest your feet and enjoy the fantastic salads, soups, and paninis of the Mad Greens Inspired Eats, a locally grown restaurant across from the museum's main entrance. Getting here is simple via RTD, the Regional Transportation District, so come on down and make a day of it at the Denver Art Museum.
