Kids, learn to shop for healthy food, use real tools and learn all about tiny critters that crawl beneath our feet! The Children's Museum of Denver is a mini real-world for tots, sure to teach, enrich and provide hours of fun for the whole family.

The Children's Museum of Denver first opened in a converted school bus, and today is housed in a building on Bannock Street in Denver. The Museum boasts countless interactive exhibits like the Maze-eum, a walk-through musical maze especially for children. Kids can actually build a car on an assembly line, use real tools in a wood shop, shop in a supermarket and learn the importance of nutrition through the museum exhibits. One of the biggest attractions here is the Center for the Young Child, aimed at newborns through four-year-olds and their caregivers. In the "Under my feet and over my head" exhibit, children will learn to be as tiny as an ant or be a bird and look for worms; or even become a squirrel and look for hidden acorns and most importantly, learn compassion for all living things.

Take note when planning your visit that older kids tend to plow through the museum in a morning or afternoon, but the under-six crowd can easily spend all day here. When the gang is ready for a snack, drop by Eat Street, which offers sandwiches, salads, and kid favorites like grilled cheese and turkey sandwiches.

To get here from I-25, take the 23rd Avenue exit, number 211. Once on 23rd Avenue, head east toward downtown, then take the first right on Children's Museum Drive and follow the curved road to the Museum.

Denver's best hands-on experience for children newborn to age eight and their grown-ups is both educational and just plain fun. Programs and playscapes are designed for newborns through age eight-year-olds and their adult caregivers.
