Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine is located one mile north of Cripple Creek and provides an opportunity to explore a real and historic gold mine. You board an elevator to travel 1,000 feet below ground, down a vertical mine shaft, to experience fascinating tours of all the equipment used in gold-mining over 100 years ago. On display in their natural un-mined states are gold veins, and telluride of gold ore.
The passages are well lit and large enough not to be claustrophobic. Much of the tour is by foot and the tour is not handicap accessible. It's open from April-October. Interestingly, the mine is still being used.
