Wyoming and Colorado Tourist Attractions
This is where the words for "America the Beautiful" were inspired. Modern population centers and old mining towns combined with the majestic peaks of the Front Range make this the most visited area of the Rockies.
Families, couples, singles, old, young, and everyone in between will find their traveling niche in the Eastern Colorado and Wyoming Rockies area. Tourist attractions range from the historical to the outdoorsy to the educational to the entertaining. Colorado's capital city, Denver, offers visitors with a plethora of big city options, while just a short drive from the center offers guests to the area with some of the most stunning mountain and river scenes in the country.
So bring your hiking boots, your ski pants, your cameras, and your love for the great outdoors and head over to Eastern Colorado and Wyoming. (P.S. Shopaholics, museum-lovers, and sports fans are also welcome!)
There are a few different ways you can take in all that this region has to offer: You can plan an itinerary loaded with rugged and active tourist attractions—like rafting down the Arkansas River in Colorado Springs, hiking the hills at Rocky Mountain National Park (okay, they're more like mountains), or skiing at the SolVista Resort in Silver Creek.
Or you can indulge in a relaxing and luxurious vacation that takes advantage of the area's vineyards, museums, and spas.
In the area of vineyards and wineries, you'll find four great wineries along Route 85, including Cross Abbey Winery in Canon City towards the southern end of the region and the Valley of the Wind Winery in Estes Park at the northern end.
Colorado Vacation Spots
Up and down Route 85 will also bring you to an abundant selection of museums. Most of the museums are in the Denver and Colorado Springs areas, but pretty much anywhere that you stop in between those larger cities you'll find a smattering of local museums and galleries. A sampling of the local specialties: Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum, Monarch Art Gallery, Western Museum of Mining and Industry, Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum, and the Cozens Ranch Museum. Got the kids with you? They'll love World of Wonder Children's Museum plus the long list of zoos and amusement parks found throughout the region.
Continuing along the vein of luxury and relaxation is the subject of spas. These offer prime vacation spots to Colorado visitors, because unlike spas in New York City or in Boston, the Colorado spas make sure to use their surroundings to the benefit of their guests. For example, at the Gold Lake Mountain Resort and Spa you'll find treatments that use the nourishing clay found in the Rocky Mountain region. At the Women's Quest Retreat, a unique activity and spa center, women from all backgrounds unite to bike, hike, and relax in the beautiful mountain landscape. The spas in and around Colorado Springs obviously take advantage of the natural springs in the area.
Rocky Mountain Vacation Spots
When people think of the Rocky Mountains, they tend to imagine the region as one busy ski area, similar to what they'd find in Aspen or Vail. The area of eastern Colorado and Wyoming, however, offers a very different experience than the busy slopes of Aspen. This part of the Rocky Mountains, the Front Range, is located to the west of the Great Plains of Kansas and hosts the five Fourteeners—these are mountains that stretch more than 14,000 feet into the sky. The area is beautiful, serene, and quiet, is filled with romantic vacation spots, is close to large cities (Denver, Colorado Springs, and Cheyenne), and, of course, still offers plenty of skiing!

The Rocky Mountain/Eastern Colorado area is loaded with stunning mountain views, forests of evergreen trees, blue skies, and some of the best hiking in the country, that you may forget that there's also a huge city in its midst. Denver, the capital city of Colorado, is a huge metropolitan area that comes fully equipped with all the required offerings of a modern, international city—tall buildings, public parks, a superior public transportation system, major airports, museums, shopping malls, and children's activities. It's a fun city to explore and serves as a great hub to come back to when you need a break from the cold mountains and crave the city life.
Wyoming and Denver, Colorado Road Trip Getaway Planner
Spend some time in either Denver, Estes Park, Boulder, or Colorado Springs, and then head off into the mountains. A long weekend isn't enough; the more time you spend here, the better, for an enjoyable Denver road trip. You won't need a map of Colorado to see that anywhere you head west from Denver gets you into rugged mountain territory.
