Things to do / Travel Guide
The eastern Colorado Rockies region offers visitors a chance to see some wonderful zoos.
Zoos and Aquariums in Denver, Colorado
Not far from the Denver downtown area is the Denver Zoological Gardens where, if you visit a replica African savannah they've recreated, you'll see predators like lions and hyenas. You'll also have a chance to see termite mounds in the Kenyan Preserve, where insects are dispersed for local mongoose. In all, the zoo presents over 700 species.
Not far from Denver's zoo is the Downtown Aquarium, where you'll be able to dine along the edge of a 150,000-gallon tank from which guitarfish can watch you as you eat.
For something a little more delicate, consider a visit to the Butterfly Pavilion, located a short distance to the north. Finger-length zebra longwings and hand-sized paper kites join more than 50 species of butterflies calling this beautiful place home.
Zoos in Cheyenne, Wyoming
Finally, if you're near the northern end of the eastern Colorado Rockies region, you'll want to visit the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, in Cheyenne, Wyoming's capital city. This natural environment is a great stop for families. Kids and parents alike will love the antique carousel!
