Public Recreational Parks in Eastern Rockies, Denver, Colorado Springs, Boulder

Things to do / Travel Guide

Two cities in the Eastern Colorado and Wyoming region boast first-class parks for you and your kids to stretch out in and run around. These are Denver and Colorado Springs.

Parks around Denver, Colorado

Denver holds the distinction of containing two excellent urban parks: the larger City Park, and the smaller Cheesman Park. The latter is good for picnics, with a large playground where the little ones can frolic about. The former boasts two lakes, upon which you can rent boats of different kinds and relax or engage in some water activities. There are huge expanses where families can play all kinds of sports, picnic, or just plain have fun.

Fort Collins' City Park

Fort Collins' City Park is situated around City Park Lake, on which you can paddle boat and sight wildlife. In addition, there are tennis courts, ball fields and basketball courts, and a miniature Statue of Liberty (the town of Manhattan is located west on State Road 14). The park is located between West Mulberry Street and West Mountain Avenue.

Colorado Springs' Palmer Park

Palmer Park is perhaps the most rugged city park in the U.S. There are terrific hikes of varying levels of difficulty and a number of bike trails of color-coded skill levels, in addition to ballparks and picnic areas.

Cheyenne's Lions Park

This city park's claim to fame is that it also hosts Cheyenne's jewel of a botanical gardens. But there's also a baseball diamond, a sparkling lake, and picnic benches.
