Things to do / Travel Guide

Eastern Colorado and the Wyoming Rockies offers golfers a wide range of challenges, from those you'd expect to find in a mountainous region, to some surprises you might not have seen coming.

Start with the Grand Elk Ranch and Club in Granby, Colorado, which delivers the feel of the Heathland courses more frequently associated with the British Isles than the American West. Large greens, rolling fairways and hazards all around make this a course golf novices might want to avoid.

Slightly more friendly to the beginner is the Riverdale Golf Club Dunes Course, which rolls through the existing topography so as not to disturb the land's natural beauty.
The scenery includes a gently undulating countryside dotted by shrubs and grassland.

Maybe friendliest of all is the Homestead at Murphy Creek, where the fairways are wide open and the greens have only the gentlest contours. The ambiance is simple and straightforward, just like golf is supposed to be.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of all is the Broadmoor Country Club East Course, one of the few North American and Caribbean courses to receive a 5-star rating by Golf Digest! The fairways are open except for some strategically placed trees that can wreck havoc with your drive. Also challenging are the greens, which are fast and hard to read. A great course!

So there's quite a bit of diversity in this region when it comes to golf. From expert to novice, every golfer will find something to enjoy in the eastern Colorado and Wyoming Rockies.
