Costs for Eastern Rockies, Denver, Colorado Springs, Boulder

Things to do / Travel Guide

The eastern Colorado and Wyoming Rockies region is pretty reasonable in terms of prices. Denver and Boulder are the priciest, while Colorado Springs is less so, and Cheyenne and Laramie are bargain-basement territory. One great thing in particular about shopping in Wyoming: sales tax is a low 4%! Expect prices of everything from accommodation to dining, as well as activity and attraction fees to similarly rise and fall depending on the area you're in.

Lodging around Denver, Colorado

Denver's five-star accommodations run between around $250 and $300 a night in an average room for two, but you can find fine hotels in the city's prime locations (near Denver International Airport (DEN), City Park, and Washington Park) for less than half the price. You can find motels for less than $40 just a few miles from Denver's downtown, off the interstates such as I-25 and I-76. You'll also find them outside Longmont, Loveland, and Fort Collins to the north of Denver, and Colorado Springs to the south. Bed and breakfast establishments (B&Bs) run around $125 a night in and near the city.

Outside Denver, lodging rates are cheaper on the whole. B&Bs, however, run the gamut - in Estes Park, for instance, they are more expensive, while they are cheaper in Cheyenne. In general, expect B&Bs in this region to cost no less than $100.

Ranches around Denver, Colorado

Dotted around the region, the most unique accommodation choice in the region is the dude ranch. Where else are you given your own horse, and the opportunity to shoot bows and arrows, swim, fish, hike, do some white-water rafting, and be surrounded with farm animals and fowl - all with friendly guides? This is like a cross between a luxury hotel and summer camp. Dude ranches have everything you need and more, so there's no need to travel into the city. Don't be too daunted by the price: It will without a doubt be an unforgettable experience, with or without the family.

Natural Attractions around Denver, Colorado

Note that many hikes, roads, and natural attractions in the region are either free or require a minimal fee - for use. You can enjoy many country treats at relatively low prices at the country road stores, and wine tastings will also be free or inexpensive. On the other hand, the more adventurous activities, especially those that'll have you airborne like skydiving and hot air ballooning, can of course cost several hundred dollars.

Dining around Denver, Colorado

Denver's center for dining is LoDo, and it is full of both very expensive and relatively inexpensive establishments. Price is no matter when it comes to the trendiness of the establishments, as the area makes up for that. Dining at the casinos in Cripple Creek or Black Hawk is also very affordable, especially as the food is particularly hearty and the portions are often larger than you'd expect.
