Shoot the whitewater rapids of the Upper Colorado River. Challenge the 58 miles of Class II-III+ rapids, the Colorado's most popular stretch for families and beginners. This section is located in north-central Colorado, west of Boulder, 1 mile from Hwy 40.
Practical Info: Rafting season is open approximately from May to September, with whitewater rafting trips ranging in length from a half day to 2 days. Popular trips include the 14 mile section from Lower Gore Canyon to State Bridge, and the 44 mile section from State Bridge to Dotsero. The river is suitable for paddle rafts, and oar rafts. Portage may be required.
Useful Tips: Guides are optional, although permits may be required for private trips. Outfitters on the Upper Colorado River offer trips suitable for families.
