Shoot the whitewater rapids of the Upper Animas River. Challenge the 26 miles of Class IV-V rapids, with an average drop of 85 feet per mile this fast flowing river has many challenging rapids to keep things lively. This section is located in San Juan County, at Silverton, on Hwy 550.

Practical Info: Rafting season is open approximately from May to July, with whitewater rafting trips ranging in length from a day trip up to 3 days. The river is suitable for paddle rafts, and oar rafts.

Useful Tips: Guides are optional, although permits may be required for private trips, and whitewater experience is recommended.

Expect to See: Black bear, lynx, marmots, white-tailed deer, and eagles in an environment of canyons, and mountains.
