Expert White Water Rafting Review

Venture down the whitewater of the Gunnison River's Lake Fork. Experience the 16 miles of Class III-IV+ rapids. The Lake Fork drops 50 feet per mile and contains the wild Surprise, Big Drop and Rattlesnake Rapids. This section is located in southwest Colorado, south west of Gunnison, 1 mile north of Hwy 149 on Co Hwy 25.

Practical Info: Rafting season is open approximately from May to July, with whitewater rafting trips ranging in length from a half day to a full day. The river is suitable for paddle rafts, oar rafts, and kayaks. Portage may be required.

Useful Tips: Guides are optional, although permits may be required for private trips, and whitewater experience is recommended. Outfitters on the Gunnison River's Lake Fork offer trips suitable for families.
