Named the Yampah Hot Springs or "Big Medicine" by the Ute Indians, the Hot Springs Lodge and Pool, at Glenwood Springs, Colorado, was created in 1888, when developers diverted the Colorado River's course and built a stone bathhouse. Today, athletes and guests swear by the benefits of the mineral-filled pool as a source of relief for arthritis, sore muscles and stiffness. Hot Springs Lodge and Pool guests can choose to soak in either the bigger at 90 degrees Hot Springs Pool, or the 104 degrees therapy pool. Together, these two open-air pools are almost 2 city blocks in length. You can taste the natural spring water at the Drinking Spring and enjoy some mineral-rich water which has been known to cure aches and pains.
Besides cozy lodging in the heart of Glenwood Springs, the Hot Springs Lodge and Pool offers waterslides, mini-golf, four handball/racquetball courts and an Athletic Club. Guests can enjoy aerobics, step, spinning or yoga. The lodge contains luxurious men's and women's locker rooms where you can indulge in a wet lounge with a large hot tub, steam room and sauna. And best of all, there are therapists who specialize in simple relaxation techniques as well as massage, great for combining with a relaxing swim or soak in the therapy pool. You may find that although all of this is enjoyable, there's more enjoyable than some solitude, soaking in the sun on the Athletic Club's private sundeck.
