The natural scenery of this northwestern Colorado, six-peak mountain range is exceptionally preserved through a unique partnership between the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation and the Routt National Forest, which makes the resort not only more earth-friendly, but enhances the beauty of its already expansive, while not towering, terrain. Steamboat's mountain village draws from its mining and ranching roots, but today is modern and posh, with plenty of art galleries, shopping, cafes and restaurants. And with the longest Superpipe on the continent, Steamboat is particularly attractive to snowboarders, who really can't beat the conditions. With a tremendous amount of off-mountain activities (hot springs, festivals, concerts, snowmobiling, spas, health centers, indoor climbing, ice-skating, horseback riding, etc), Steamboat is also a great place for people who prefer not to hit the slopes.
Steamboat has six peaks that make up its expansive mountain range: Mount Werner, Sunshine Peak, Storm Peak, Pioneer Ridge and Christies Peak. From the top of Mount Werner, extreme double black diamond terrain is accessible via the Morningside Park Lift, offering up chutes, advanced mogul runs, powder bowls, and unique tree skiing. Famous tree runs (Shadows, Closet and Twilight) are located on Sunshine peak, in addition to bump runs and cruising slopes. Gladded areas off of Pioneer Ridge, Sunshine, and Storm Peak are particularly popular with ski buffs. Thunderhead Peak is great for intermediate and advanced skiers while Christies peak is better for beginners. A favorite of snowboarders, the famous Mavericks Superpipe is 50 feet wide, 650 feet long and has 15-foot walls and a 17-foot transition. The Sobe Terrain Park, located across from Mavericks, features a variety of rails (kinked, sliders, rainbows, mailboxes, double barrel) and a mini-superpipe with 5-foot walls, perfect for beginning boarders. The diverse terrain and trails are served by 20 lifts, including one high-speed gondola.
