At the edge of the Grand Mesa, the world's largest flat-top mountain, Powderhorn Resort is uniquely located where the valley meets the mountains. The resort sits 4,000 feet above the Valley base, providing some spectacular views of western Colorado in all its glory: its valleys, foothills and mountains. In addition, the 360,000 acres atop the Grand Mesa offer miles and miles of excellent cross-country skiing and world-renowned snowmobiling. Nearby Grand Junction provides all the services of a big city, but several affordable and friendly mountainside lodging options mean you won't have to head too far from the slopes.
Served by three lifts, Powderhorn has diverse terrain with about half the slopes devoted to intermediate skiers and riders. Glade skiing, bumps, corduroy, and snow up to your waist is only part of the appeal. The resort is especially a favorite of local snowboarders, who hit up the resorts two parks to develop their skills and learn new tricks. Pepsi Tyro Park is located on Bottom's Up and has an assortment of smaller hits, boxes and rails that follow a natural skill level progression. Mt. Dew Junction Park, located on the Peacemaker trail, is for more advanced snowboarders and includes a rainbow rail, C rail, wall ride, flat-down, flat-down-flat, pyramid, pipes, barrels, benches, and boxes.
