Our Nature Nut Says:

The completion of the Steamboat Lake dam in 1968 filled the lake with water from five different creeks, which allowed the reservoir to be used for recreational purposes. Today, this State Park is a haven for recreation of all types; its breathtaking scenery provides a perfect backdrop for fishing, boating, and picnicking and its peaks and valleys make for prime skiing in the winter. The Routt National Forest is home to mule deer, red foxes, and mountain lions, which are spotted on occasion, and to over 200 species of birds. Some of the native plants here include sagebrush shrubland and lodgepole pine forest, and herb-lovers will appreciate the native geranium, strawberry, and arnica. The 10 camper-cabins at Steamboat Lake are a great way to make more time for outdoor fun and truly appreciate the magnificent views here - perhaps over a lakeside cup of coffee at dawn!
