At South Shore Music Circus, you get two great experiences mixed into one: world-class entertainment and an evening out on the scenic South Shore of Massachusetts. The South Shore Music Circus, along with its sister venue, the Cape Cod Melody Tent, are the only two continuously-operated (since 1932) tent theaters in the country. Both venues are owned by the South Shore Playhouse Associates, which is a not-for-profit organization that supports the arts in the area.
The South Shore Music Circus and the Cape Cod Melody Tent both have rich histories that include stage performances under the direction of playwright greats like Thornton Wilder and Sinclair Lewis. Famous actors also took the stage at these summer tent theaters, such as Angela Lansbury, Bob Hope, Robert Merril, Kitty Carlisle, Debbie Reynolds, Benny Goodman, Rosemary Clooney, and others. Tickets back then cost about $1.20.
Modern times have brought world-class performers to the stage as well. Bill Cosby, the Beach Boys, Willie Nelson, Hall & Oates, Chris Isaak, Carole King, Melissa Etheridge, Wynonna, Crosby Stills Nash, and the Indigo Girls are among the superb artists who have graced the stage at these two tents.
