Our Museum Expert Says:

Experience life with the pilgrims and early Native Americans! Take a ride on the Mayflower II and walk through a 1627 English Village in the Plimoth Plantation, a living museum that gives visitors a real taste of life in old Plymouth.

The Plimoth Plantation began with a "First House" exhibit and expanded into a nearby fortified village by the 1950s. The Pilgrim village is a re-creation of what the original Pilgrim settlement might have been like, while interpreters speak, act, and dress as the Pilgrims once did. At the nearby Wampanoag home site, modern native people explain and demonstrate how the Wampanoag's ancestors lived. The grounds also include Nye Barn, where livestock are kept along with crafts and visitors centers. Visitors here can also climb onboard the Mayflower II, which is docked near Plymouth Rock, and enjoy lunch in the Patuxet Café, where the dishes are of Wampanoag and English colonial traditions, and where Mayflower Golden Ale, an exclusive 17th century brew, is served.

To get here from South Station, take the Commuter Rail train to the North Plymouth station. The local GATRA Bus line runs from Plymouth center to the museum. You may also travel by the Plymouth-Brockton Bus line from Boston to Plymouth, which will bring you to a local GATRA stop. Be sure to allow at least half a day for all of the captivating exhibits at the awesome Plimoth Plantation.
