Tennis buffs rejoice! The International Tennis Hall of Fame is filled with awesome memorabilia and history of the sport, enough to keep you stimulated for hours and coming back for more!
The International Tennis Hall of Fame is the sport's Mecca, and its history and many champions are celebrated here in great style. Established in 1954, and located on beautiful Bellevue Avenue amongst shops and eateries, the International Tennis Hall of Fame was originally named the National Lawn Tennis Hall of Fame, and until 1972, only Americans were inducted. After that, the field was opened to include members from other countries. In 1986, it was renamed the International Tennis Hall of Fame, and was recognized as the official Hall of Fame by the International Tennis Federation.
Today, the Hall of Fame Museum tells the entire history of tennis, dating from the 12th century through the present. There are 18 galleries with 20,000 square feet of interactive exhibits, momentous videos, and popular memorabilia of tennis champions past and present and the museum's permanent collection alone contains over 15,000 objects. The Library and Information Research Center has over 5,000 books, over 1,000 tapes and films and an abundant collection of magazines, programs, periodicals, posters, and personal player memorabilia, enough to keep any lover of tennis busy for hours!
To get here, take Interstate 93 South, Route 128, Interstate 495 East or Interstate 195 to Route 24 South. Follow Route 24 through Fall River into Rhode Island. Take Exit 1 to Route 138 West.
