Visitors to Faneuil Hall in Boston will get a real show of American patriotism in a short visit to the Museum of Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts. We are talking about true patriotism, not about some distorted story about Paul Revere warning the British. Headquartered in Boston, the Artillery Company is the oldest military organization in the United States, pre-dating the founding of the country by 138 years. The Military Company of Massachusetts, as it was known in its early days was granted its charter by Governor Winthrop only 18 years after the settlers landed at Plymouth Rock. Since then, the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts provided militia soldiers to defend the people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, fought the British at Bunker Hill and Lexington and have been defending the United States in every war since. Four US Presidents have been members, the most recent being John F. Kennedy. The company serves the community as well, through charitable causes and events. If you are in Boston on July 4, make sure to attend the reading of the Declaration of Independence by the captain of the company. The company participates in the Plymouth Thanksgiving Parade and the Patriot's Day Parade, as well.
A visit to the museum and their headquarters will introduce you to people who are a direct link to the founders of the country and true patriots. You might want to check with them before voting in the next presidential election. Head to the upper floor of Faneuil Hall to the museum, see relics of wars fought by members of the company from colonial days to the present day. Consider a visit to the armory and the captain quarters as well.
