Address:Narragansett, Rhode Island
Narragansett Town Beach is a mile long stretch of clean beachfront that stretches out from the Sea Wall to Narrow River. Landmarks such as the Beavertail Lighthouse in Jamestown and the Newport Bridge can be viewed from the beach and provide a beautiful background – that is the beautiful beach isn't enough! Close to Newport and Providence and not too far from New York City, Narragansett Town Beach is a great place for families to escape to when city life is getting them down. Visitors to this beach will love the big waves, the fine sand, the live music often found at the nearby park, and the New England feel!
Narragansett Town Beach brings along with it an interesting history dating back to colonial times. Narragansett was an early American settlement named after the Native American tribe from whom the land was purchased. The main industry of the area was shipbuilding (you'll still see tons of sailboats out on the water) and soon became known as a very popular summer resort. A fire in the early 1900s destroyed much of the commerce that had been set up, but the town of Narragansett has worked hard to rebuild its reputation as a great vacation spot for all!
Compared to other busier beaches in the New England area, Narragansett is not overloaded with restaurants and stores, but drinks after a long day at the beach can be found at the Coast Guard House. And other quaint spots dot the area too, providing tons of post-beach fun!
Tips: Parking can be scarce, so come early to guarantee a good spot. And weather can be iffy and the water cold, so beware of those conditions as well.
