Moshup Beach is located at the western tip of Martha's Vineyard off of Cape Cod. The beach faces the Atlantic Ocean near the Gay Head Cliffs of the island. The beach has a family-friendly area near the entrance and becomes clothing optional further down the coast. Although not one of the easiest to get to beaches near Boston, Moshup Beach is the only clothing optional beach on Martha's Vineyard and one of the most scenic beaches on the East Coast. The white sand beach is backed by multi-colored cliffs, including nearby Gay Head Cliffs. Make sure to visit the lighthouse atop the cliffs. A wooden planked boardwalk makes up the path through the seagrass from the lighthouse to the beach. Combining the walk along the cliffs with strolls along the water make for one of the best beach walks in the area. While you are observing the reds, green and grey colors of the cliff make sure to think of the Ice Age of over 10,000 years ago that deposited all the sediment that forms the cliff and then melted away just in time for the 10000 BC Summer season on Martha's Vineyard. Seriously, this is a beach walk you will not forget.
Since the area is kind of difficult to get to, the beach is more secluded than most of the Boston / Cape Cod area beaches. Facing west, the beach makes for a great sunset spot.
