Our Beach Bum Says:

During the short ferry ride from mainland Rhode Island to Block Island, you'll encounter pleasant Crescent Beach, a shoreline alive and thriving since the 1880's. Comprised of Fred Benson Town Beach (a.k.a. State Beach), Scotch Beach, Mansion Beach, and Kid Beach, the Crescent Beach's 2.5 mile stretch provides a beach environment for everyone!

Only about 900 people live on Block Island, and since it's difficult to bring your car over, you'll find the areas around Crescent Beach nearly car-free, pollution free, and quiet. Visitors are known to rent mopeds or bicycles during their stay at Crescent Beach, so rent a bike and ride into town when you need a break from your fun in the sun.

Crescent Beach has a rural shoreline, complete with sand dunes and trails leading up to the wide beach and turquoise waters. Lifeguards are at the Fred Benson Town Beach, as well as a fully equipped bathhouse, umbrella and chair rentals, boogie boards, and hot food and drinks.

Kid's Beach is closest to town and the ferry dock and provides the little ones with shallow waters to splash around in and soft sand. Scotch Beach also has soft sand, but is a bit further out and visitors need to bring all amenities that they may need—but it's worth it, for the deep, lush sands. Mansion Beach is Crescent Islands grandest beach named for the island's biggest house that sat upon the luscious sands. The mansion burned down, but the beach memorializes it by keeping its name.

So take a stroll, take a swim, and even take a parasailing lesson! Crescent Beach will fulfill that craving for paradise that only perfect beaches can even attempt to do.
