Things to do / Travel Guide
The best time to visit coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island is in the fall, as it is the driest season, with sunny and very pleasant weather. Rain, however, is almost evenly distributed throughout the year. Weather is known to change drastically from day to day, and sometimes even from morning to afternoon.
While the coastal winters are relatively mild, temperatures may still get quite frigid as a result of strong and bitterly cold ocean winds. Precipitation falls as rain and sleet towards the beginning of the season, and later as snow. The muddy springs begin foggy and chilly, and as the season progresses, the weather gets warmer with occasional heat waves. When summer sets in, the region becomes hot, humid, and hazy, though temperatures are often modified by the ocean breezes. Thunderstorms, causing strong winds and heavy rains, are common during mid-season.
