Address:One Paul Brown Stadium
Cincinnati, Ohio
Our Sports Superfan Says:
One of the new, popular stadiums that were built in the early 2000s to replace the multipurpose concrete and artificial turf cookie cutters of the 1970s, Paul Brown Stadium is a state-of-the-art football venue. As the home of the Cincinnati Bengals since 2000, the stadium has received solid reviews, and has seen the transformation of its team from a laughingstock to respectable franchise.
Originally, Paul Brown Stadium's playing field was made of grass, but it was too unstable. A grass-like artificial surface, FieldTurf, was installed before the Bengals' 2004 season. Since the Bengals made two playoff appearances in 1988 and 1990, the franchise had been one of the worst in the league but, in their new digs, the team made a turnaround. In 2003 they finished at .500 for the first time since 1996, and in 2005 the Bengals won their division and hosted a playoff game at Paul Brown Stadium. In addition to the Bengals' two preseason, eight regular season, and up to two postseason games each year, Paul Brown Stadium has hosted several college football games, and a very popular annual chess tournament for schoolchildren
The stadium, nicknamed "The Jungle" as a result of its status of the home field of a team named for the Bengal tiger, was the top-rated football stadium, and third highest-rated sports venue overall, in a February, 2007 Harris Interactive poll entitled "America's favorite 150 buildings and structures." Paul Brown Stadium came in at 101st place on a list that included skyscrapers, museums, and all other kinds of buildings.
Located on the banks of the Ohio River, in downtown Cincinnati, Paul Brown Stadium is easily accessible via mass transit. There are park and ride shuttles, a ferry from across the river in Kentucky, and a TANK shuttle.
