The Johnson Center UK (University of Kentucky) has a 1400 square foot climbing wall open 7 days a week, most nights till 10pm. Courses are available as are scheduled trips, including day trips to Red River Gorge, Kentucky for some outdoor rock climbing.

Other facilities at Johnson Gym, KY include weight training and fitness facilities and classes, as well as racquetball, aerobics, Zumba (a kind of dance aerobics) and an indoor jogging track. The fitness center is large enough to serve a nice sized university (which it does), with over 100 machines and a large spinning facility. The pool is located at the Lancaster Aquatic Center and has dedicated hours for recreational use.

Please note that the Gym at Johnson Center is open to University of Kentucky students and staff only, so if you are just passing through you will probably not get in. If you can find a Johnson Center member to invite you in as a guest, then for $5 you are climbing, swimming and much more, so get friendly with someone at UK. If not, you will probably have a hard time finding an open rock climbing gym in Lexington, Kentucky. Climb Time, was a pretty good place but closed down long ago. If you are ready for some outdoor rock climbing, the most popular close by location is Red River Gorge, about an hour and a half east of Lexington in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Red River Gorge just happens to be one of the most popular climbing destinations in the United States. Don't believe us? Mention "the Red" to anyone who knows rock climbing.
