Named after the official bat of major league baseball, the Louisville Slugger Museum showcases the history of "America's Favorite Pastime" and the King of Bats. Located in Louisville's "Museum Row" in the West Main District of downtown, the museum features numerous famous bats, such as the one used by Babe Ruth to hit his last home run as a Yankee, and a recently discovered Pete Browning bat from the 1800s. Talk about an old bat!
The Louisville Slugger Museum is housed with the corporate headquarters and a production facility for Hillerich & Bradsby Co., the makers of the Louisville Slugger. So in addition to learning about the history of bats, visitors can actually see where they are made (if you're lucky you will see actual bats-in-progress in the factory). The museum also has a batting cage where you can show off your swing; a movie on baseball history and the history of the museum/factory, and at the end of the museum's guided tour, visitors receive a free mini-slugger. In addition, there are plenty of places for photo opportunities at the museum, including a dugout, a huge baseball glove, and the 120-foot tall replica of a baseball bat leaning against the side of the building!
The Louisville Slugger Museum contains a lot of interesting baseball history, but it is not recommended for children unless they are already baseball fans.
