For anyone deeply interested in Victorian art and antiques or have a passion for learning about Southern women in the Civil War, Belmont Mansion promises an exciting and educational experience!
An Italianate-style villa, Belmont Mansion was the summer home of Adelicia and Joseph Acklen, who built and used the home for escaping the Louisiana heat. The wealthy couple built, furnished, and landscaped one of the most elaborate antebellum homes in Belmont. The 19,000 sq. ft. mansion contains 36 rooms, an art gallery, conservatories, lavish gardens, an aviary, a lake and a zoo. Visitors can see 4 of the 5 major marble statues which Adelicia brought from Europe, where they were made by America's most important sculptors in Rome at the time. And once you've built up an appetite, you can enjoy tea, brunch or lunch in the Grand Salon.
Groups of 15 visitors can enjoy a unique experience in the personal, informative one-hour long tour. Bigger groups (over 65), can take advantage of the open house tour, which includes a personal 20-minute orientation history of the mansion, and guests are welcome to stroll through the mansion at their leisure. Or if you prefer, come and see Belmont Mansion in the evening glow of the original chandeliers and enjoy an evening with a delicious dinner, a personally guided tour, and fabulous live entertainment! There are also musical programs which vary from Songs of the South, Broadway, and Classics of All Time, to period music straight from Adelicia's songbook. The exceptional list of entertainers runs from performers at the Bluebird Café to Nashville Symphony Orchestra players.
To get to Belmont Mansion from I-65, take Exit 81, Wedgewood Ave. Travel West (following signs to Belmont University). Belmont University is on the left about 1 mile from I-65.
