Perryville Battle State Historic Park is the site Kentucky's largest Civil War battle and also the most bloody - where an estimated 7,400+ soldiers were killed or wounded. The site of the October, 1862 battle has been preserved and today looks much like it did during the Civil War. The Perryville Battle constituted a tactical victory for the Confederate forces, as the outnumbered Union forces withdrew. However, it proved to be a significant strategic win for the Union Army, as the Confederates withdrew during the night, giving them Union complete control of the state of Kentucky.
